Local stocks surged, NIFTY up 2.01%

The key domestic indices finished sharply higher. Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Bank shares advanced, while Nifty Media shares declined.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, soared 1718.01 points or 2.17% to 81,028.02. The Nifty 50 index rallied 493.75 points or 2.01% to 25,030.35. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex surged by 5.12% and 5.34%, respectively.

The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index lost 0.16% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index declined 0.91%.

The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 2206 shares rose and 3049 shares retreated. A total of 230 shares were unchanged.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 734.83 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 89.20% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen sharply by around 7.83% in last one-month and has dropped sharply 22.82% over last one year.

ICICI Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 403.83 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 148.39% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has rallied 12.61% in last one-month and has climbed sharply 13.60% over last one year.

In NSE500, Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions Ltd recorded a sharp intraday recovery of 23.35%.The stock tested low of Rs 1021.2 and ended at Rs 1259.7, lower by around 1.32% on the day.

Index action

The Nifty Private Bank index jumped 3.22% to 29503.4 today. The index has surged by 5.66% in last one week and has added 6.98% over last one month. It edged up by 2.77% in last one year. Yes Bank Ltd (up 5.91%), ICICI Bank Ltd (up 4.75%), HDFC Bank Ltd (up 3.72%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 3.35%) and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd (up 2.78%) traded higher.

The Nifty Financial Services index advanced sharply by 2.57% to 27283.95 today. The index has rallied by 7.67% in last one week and has climbed 7.88% over last one month. It has eased by 1.60% in last one year. ICICI Bank Ltd (up 4.75%), HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (up 3.95%), HDFC Bank Ltd (up 3.72%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 3.35%) and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (up 2.82%) advanced.

The Nifty Media index shed 1.52% to 1670.5 today. The index is higher by 2.47% in last one week and has advanced 8.70% over last one month. It has advanced by 13.56% in last one year. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 5.12%), MPS Ltd (down 2.37%), Saregama India Ltd (down 1.96%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (down 1.32%) and Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (down 1.18%) retreated.

The Nifty Private Bank index rose for a third session in a row today. Yes Bank Ltd (up 5.91%), ICICI Bank Ltd (up 4.75%), HDFC Bank Ltd (up 3.72%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 3.35%) and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd (up 2.78%) gained.

Global Markets

European markets saw losses.

DOW futures are marginally lower by 0.96% today.

NIFTY50 futures closed up by 1.71% at 25008 and are in a discount of 22 points compared to NIFTY50.
