NIFTY moves up, Nifty IT remains an index to watch as it trades higher

The key equity barometers traded with gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 22516-22295. Nifty IT, Nifty FMCG and Nifty PSU Bank shares advanced.

At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, advanced 790.39 points or 1.10% to 72,383.63. The Nifty 50 index gained 241.90 points or 1.09% to 22,473.70.

The broader market failed to keep pace with frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index climbed 0.89% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged higher by 0.40%.

The market breadth was favorable. On the BSE, 2748 shares rose and 1842 shares declined. A total of 250 shares were unchanged.

Nifty IT index surged 3.34% to 28663. The index has declined 7.18% in last one month and recorded sharp losses of 21.27% over last one year. TCS, climbing 5.66%, led the gainers followed by LTM, up 3.67% and Wipro, edging up 3.47%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today.

Nifty FMCG index rallied 1.57% to 44589. The index has posted modest losses of 4.05% in last one month and registered heavy losses of 19.44% over last one year. Colgate-Palmoliv, rising 5.85%, led the gainers followed by ITC, inching higher 2.76% and United Spirits, gaining 2.55%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 14 are reporting gains today.

Nifty PSU Bank index gained 1.54% to 8119. The index has eased by 4.95% in last one month and added 6.28% over last one year. Bank of India, adding 2.67%, led the gainers followed by Canara Bank, adding 2.05% and Bank of Maha, up 2.02%, respectively. All 12 constituents are advancing today.

All 14 sectoral indices on NSE are trading in the green today. Nifty IT index has recorded steep losses of 7.18% in last one month and has slumped 21.27% over last year. Nifty Consumer Durables index has registered heavy losses of 9.21% in last one month and has lost 6.86% over last one year.

From NIFTY50 index, Vodafone Idea, CESC AND Suzlon Energy are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 720.92 lakh shares, 5481.65 lakh shares and 1524.22 lakh shares respectively.

Asian markets posted modest gains on Friday. China’s Shanghai composite is lower by 0.69%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is sharply higher by 1.40%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is down 0.08%.

NIFTY50 Oct-26 futures are in discount of 66.30 points today.
