Domestic stocks move modestly lower

The key equity barometers traded with minor losses in early trade. Nifty opened at 24118 and hit a high of 24129 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Bank shares gained, while Nifty Metal and Nifty Media shares fell.
At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, moved lower by 304.70 points or 0.39% to 76,959.81. The Nifty 50 index lost 108.95 points or 0.45% to 24,066.70.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest losses of 0.79% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index declined 0.97%.
The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 1590 shares advanced and 2409 shares retreated. A total of 317 shares were unchanged.
Nifty Private Bank index moved higher by 0.23% to 27801. The index has moved higher by 1.67% in last one month and added 6.38% over last one year. HDFC Bank, adding 1.88%, led the gainers followed by ICICI Bank, up 0.12%. Out of 10 index constituents, 2 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Bank index edged higher by 0.09% to 57548. The index has edged up 1.31% in last one month and inched up 6.83% over last one year. HDFC Bank, gaining 1.88%, led the gainers followed by ICICI Bank, inching higher 0.12%. Out of 14 index constituents, 2 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Metal index shed 2.29%. The index has risen 9.07% in last one month and recorded robust gains of 46.85% over last one year. Hindustan Zinc, losing 4.38%, led the losers followed by Natl. Aluminium, down 3.71% and Vedanta, edging lower 3.41%, respectively. All 15 index constituents are reporting losses today.
In NIFTY500, New India Assura is the top gainer today, adding 4.35% to Rs 194.50. The counter is down 2.87% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 128157.83 in last five sessions compared to 163612.79 over last one month.
Asian markets posted steep losses on Monday. China’s Shanghai composite is slightly lower by 0.20%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is lower by 0.71%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading lower by 1.07%.
