Local stocks see slight losses

The key equity barometers traded with minor losses in early trade. Nifty opened at 24176 and hit a high of 24198 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Media, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Pharma shares gained, while Nifty IT and Nifty Metal shares declined.

At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, posted modest losses of 55.15 points to 77,313.96. The Nifty 50 index down 48.25 points to 24,170.80.

The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched down 0.12% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index lost 0.29%.

The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 2096 shares rose and 2669 shares fell. A total of 233 shares were unchanged.

Nifty Media index posted modest gains of 0.57% to 1612. The index has inched higher by 4.97% in last one month and lost 1.41% over last one year. Nazara Technolo., gaining 3.16%, led the gainers followed by Zee Entertainmen, inching higher 0.76% and Tips Music, edging up 0.44%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 3 are reporting gains today.

Nifty PSU Bank index inched up 0.47% to 8580. The index has risen slightly by 2.33% in last one month and posted strong gains of 22.34% over last one year. Bank of Maha, up 1.50%, led the gainers followed by Union Bank (I), adding 1.48% and Bank of India, up 1.31%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 10 are reporting gains today.

Nifty IT index posted modest losses of 0.68%. The index has risen 6.36% in last one month and recorded sharp losses of 15.66% over last one year. Persistent Systems, down 1.93%, led the losers followed by HCL Technologies, losing 1.59% and Tech Mahindra, slipping 1.16%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 9 are reporting loss today.

In NIFTY500, F A C T is the top gainer today, skyrocketing 15.12% to Rs 903. The counter has tumbled 22.80% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 9714.67 in last five sessions compared to 8847.91 over last one month.

Asian markets edged higher on Tuesday. China’s Shanghai composite is modestly higher by 0.22%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is down 0.01%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is higher by 0.50%.
